Panaji, Jun 4: The Goa unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticised the BJP-led state government over alleged failures in ensuring regular and affordable electricity supply despite adequate power availability.
Addressing a press conference, Goa AAP president Valmiki Naik claimed that residents across the state continue to face frequent and unplanned power cuts, causing inconvenience to households as well as businesses.
Naik alleged that the Power Department recorded nearly 25,000 unplanned outages during the first three months of the year. According to him, this translates to an average of around 35 power interruptions every day, raising concerns over the reliability of the state's electricity infrastructure.

The AAP leader also reiterated the party's opposition to the rollout of smart electricity meters. He warned that if the government fails to withdraw the smart meter programme within the next 15 days, the party will launch a fresh protest campaign titled "Viz Andolan 2.0".
Naik said the proposed agitation would focus on highlighting consumer grievances related to electricity services and demanding greater accountability from the government and the Power Department.
The BJP-led government has not yet responded to the latest allegations.
The issue of power supply reliability and the implementation of smart meters continues to remain a major point of contention between the ruling party and the opposition in Goa.
AAP has urged the government to address concerns related to electricity supply and engage with consumers over the smart meter programme, maintaining that public confidence in the state's power infrastructure can only be restored through transparency and improved service delivery.
