Kasargod, Jun 6: A tragic rain-related accident claimed the lives of two young brothers and left another child seriously injured after a compound wall collapsed onto a bus shelter at Sanjakadavu near Adhur on Saturday evening.

The victims have been identified as Musammil (14) and Munsil (9), sons of Abubakkar of Sanjakadavu. The incident occurred at around 4.45 pm amid heavy rainfall that has been lashing the district.

According to local sources, the three children were playing inside a nearby bus shelter when a compound wall suddenly gave way and came crashing down on the structure, trapping them beneath a heap of stones, mud and debris.

Hearing the loud crash, local residents rushed to the scene and launched rescue efforts. The children were pulled out from beneath the rubble and rushed to Chegala hospital. However, doctors declared Musammil and Munsil dead on arrival.

The third child, Wateef (9), son of neighbouring resident Tajudheen, sustained serious injuries in the incident. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Kasargod, where he is undergoing treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary of the Chegala Cooperative Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The tragedy occurred on a day when a red alert had been issued across Kasargod district due to heavy rainfall and educational institutions had been closed as a precautionary measure. With schools remaining shut, the children were reportedly spending time at the bus shelter when the wall collapsed.

Residents said the compound wall belonged to a house where a housewarming ceremony had been held only a few days ago.

The deceased children were students of the Government School at Adhur.
