Mangaluru, Jun 11: The Institute of Nursing Sciences, Srinivas University, organized the Lamp Lighting & Oath taking Ceremony 2026 on Wednesday, June 10, at the Dental College Campus, Mukka, Surathkal, marking a significant milestone in the professional journey of nursing students.
The programme commenced with a ceremonial march by the students, symbolizing their entry into the noble nursing profession. Welcoming the gathering, Dr Jubi Mary Chacko, dean of the Institute of Nursing Sciences, highlighted the importance of the ceremony in shaping compassionate, dedicated, and competent healthcare professionals.





The event was graced by Vijayalakshmi R Rao, member, board of governors, Srinivas University, and Prof A Mitra S Rao, member, board of governors, Srinivas University, Ishaan S Rao, member, board of governors, Srinivas University, as guests of honour. Prof Subramanya Nayak, principal of New Mangala College of Nursing, Mangaluru, attended as the chief guest.
Prof A Mitra S Rao appreciated the efforts of the organizers and students and advised the budding nurses to treat patients with compassion and a smile, continuously update their knowledge, and develop professional skills to excel in their careers.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Subramanya Nayak spoke about the evolving healthcare landscape, the challenges faced by the nursing profession, and the vast opportunities available in the field. He encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning and strive for professional excellence.
The significance and purpose of the Lamp Lighting Ceremony were explained to the gathering, emphasizing its role in instilling the values of service, dedication, and professional commitment among nursing students. The ceremonial lighting of the Florence Nightingale Lamp was performed by chief guest Prof Subramanya Nayak and Dr Jubi Mary Chacko, symbolizing the transmission of knowledge, care, and compassion.
In a solemn and meaningful ritual, the nursing faculty passed the light to the students, signifying the continuation of Florence Nightingale’s legacy. The students then took the Nightingale Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to ethical nursing practice and compassionate patient care. A special dedication song presented by the students added an inspiring and emotional touch to the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Jeevitha, associate professor, department of mental health studies.
