Calangute, Jul 3: Roads in Calangute that were resurfaced just two months ago have developed large potholes following the arrival of the monsoon, prompting residents to allege poor construction quality and demand immediate repairs.
One of the worst-affected stretches is the road near the Calangute Police Station, where commuters say the damaged surface has become a safety hazard.
Residents pointed out that the road was hot-mixed and formally inaugurated in May by local MLA Michael Lobo and Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira. However, with the road already deteriorating, locals questioned the quality of the work.

"If roads develop potholes within just two months of being resurfaced, it raises serious questions about the quality of the work and possible corruption," an agitated resident said.
Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said the damaged stretch poses a significant risk to motorists, particularly during the monsoon.
"The road is in a dangerous condition, and there is every possibility that commuters could lose control of their vehicles and end up in the fields alongside the road," he said.
Sequeira added that the village panchayat had already informed the Water Resources Department (WRD) after noticing that one side of the road had subsided.
According to him, the WRD advised the panchayat to approach the Public Works Department (PWD), which is responsible for carrying out repairs to the damaged road.
Residents also reported that several large potholes have appeared along the Chogm Road stretch between O'Coqueiro Junction and Calangute Church, making daily travel increasingly difficult and hazardous.
Locals have urged the authorities to undertake immediate repair work before the road condition worsens further during the ongoing monsoon season.
