Bantwal, July 15: A labourer lost his life and two others were seriously injured after a lorry laden with laterite stones overturned at Athalike near Allipade in Devasyapaduru village on the outskirts of Bantwal on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Pramod (42), a resident of Kavalapaduru.

The injured, lorry driver Sunil and fellow labourer Krishnappa, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred while the lorry was returning from a stone quarry carrying a load of laterite stones. The vehicle reportedly went out of control before overturning. Local residents suspect brake failure may have led to the mishap, although the exact cause will be established only after the police complete their investigation.

The force of the accident caused the lorry to overturn completely, trapping Pramod and Krishnappa beneath the vehicle. They were extricated with the help of a JCB excavator and rushed to hospital. However, Pramod succumbed to his injuries despite medical treatment.

Traffic police sub-inspector Adarsh visited the scene, conducted an inspection and initiated the investigation into the accident.
