Panaji, Oct 2: The Goa government has begun working towards exporting vegetables produced in the state to foreign countries through Mopa Airport, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.

Addressing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Swayampurna Goa event, Sawant said vegetable production in Goa had increased by 140 per cent. He recalled that the state once imported 100 per cent of its vegetables from Belagavi, while it was now exporting vegetables to the neighbouring city.

The chief minister said the government had reached out to 52,400 farmers and connected them with basic facilities and various agricultural schemes. He also highlighted the growth in vegetable production and exports, along with initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and promoting Nari Shakti.

Sawant said around three lakh marigold saplings had been distributed to farmers across Goa using Indo-Israel technology. Flowers worth crores of rupees that were previously imported into the state are now being cultivated locally, he said.
