US, Chinese Teams Head to Pakistan Avalanche Site

Islamabad, Apr 15 (IANS): Experts from the US, Norway and China will arrive in Pakistan Sunday to help search for 138 soldiers and civilians trapped in an avalanche a week ago.

The Pakistan Army's search operation, meanwhile, was continuing at full speed, Geo TV reported. The avalanche occurred in the Gayari sector of the Siachen glacier April 7.

The German and Swiss experts have advised using traditional digging tools instead of deploying heavy machinery at some of the sensitive points.

Currently, some 550 people, including troops, locals and foreign experts are participating in the search and rescue operation.
