Bangalore, May 7: The State Cabinet has asked the Governor to reject the clemency petition of the serial killer Umesh Reddy, who was found guilty in several rape, murder and robbery cases by a Fast Track court in Bangalore which was upheld by the higher courts including the Supreme Court.

Briefing reporters after a meeting of the State Cabinet, Law and Parliamentary Minister Suresh Kumar said that it was decided to recommend to Governor H R Bharadwaj to reject the clemency petition submitted by Gowramma, mother of the convicted Reddy.

With the decision of the Cabinet to reject the mercy petition, the stage is set to enforce the capital punishment awarded by the High Court and upheld by the Supreme Court to Umesh Reddy.

While Umesh Reddy waiting for facing gallows was lodged in Parappana Agrahara Jail his mother Gowramma had submitted a mercy petition to President of India seeking commutation of the capital punishment to life imprisonment which in turn had been sent to Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj recently.

Suresh Kumar also said that the Cabinet has also requested the Governor to reject the petition of two others, Razak and Jinesab Karzagi, who have been serving life sentence.
