Mangalore, Jun 7: A retaining wall near Ashok Nagar, Shediguri, collapsed over a house owned by Ishwara Poojary incurring a loss of around Rs 75,000. The incident took place on Thursday June 7 at around 9.30 am.

As soon as the incident occurred, Harish, son of Ishwar, called the local corporator who visited the spot at 12.00 pm. “But the MCC JE, Khader, contractors, and workers came to the spot at around 2.30 pm,” said Harish.

The retaining wall was built just five to six years ago when Shalini was the corporator. One can just imagine the quality of work that causes the wall to collapse in such a short span, that too in the first week of the season.

When Khader was asked about this, he said that the wall might have collapsed due to water sinking in through it as there is no gutter for the water to flow out. “After the mud and the stones are cleared, the higher officers will visit the spot and then the total repair charges will be estimated. But, as the rainy season has begun, just bags of mud or sand will be temporarily put up and rebuilding of the wall will be done later,” he said.

While questioned about the delay in clearing work, Khader said that he received the call about 1.30 pm and he came to the spot at around 2.30 pm.

There are seven members in all living in this house. The living room, bedroom, and kitchen have been badly damaged. Luckily all have escaped unhurt.
