Argentine Comedian Jorge Luz is Dead


Buenos Aires, Jul 16 (IANS/EFE): Argentine actor Jorge Luz, who stood out during his prolific career as a comedian, died in Buenos Aires, his family said Sunday. He was 90.

The artist, who acted in more than 30 films, died Saturday night in the Providencia Health Clinic in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Bavanera, where he had been receiving treatment for two weeks for a health problem that required surgery from which he was unable to recover, clinic spokesperson said.

Born on May 8, 1922, the actor, whose real name was Oscar Jorge Da Lus Borbon, became very popular for his television, movie, theater and radio roles.

Luz was a member of the group known as "Los cinco grandes del buen humor" (The five good mood greats) along with Zelmar Guenol, Rafael Carret, Guillermo Rico and Juan Carlos Cambon, with whom he made Latin American and European tours.
