London, Aug 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Jordan Burroughs of the US took gold in a close final in the men's 74 kg against Saeed Goudarzi of Iran.
With loud cheers from American and Iranian fans driving the athletes on, Burroughs scored minor throws in each of the first two periods to seal a 3-0 win on points.
Burroughs secured the win with a surging throw on Goudarzi 10 seconds from the end of the second round to take gold.
He then jumped into the stands to celebrate with the American fans, prompting speculation he may have breached anti-doping rules.
The match was a rematch of last year's world championship final in Istanbul, which Burroughs won.
Uzbekistan's Soslan Tigiev and Russia's Denis Tsargush won bronze.
Tigiev beat Hungary's Gabor Hatos 3-0 on points in the first bronze medal match before Tsargush beat Canadian wrestler Matt Gentry on points in the second match.
Tigiev, the losing finalist at the 2008 Olympics, won the first round 1-0 with a minor throw, and won the match on a clinch at the end of the second, which was scoreless.
Tsargush, a double world champion and three-time European champion, beat Gentry 3-0 on points, winning the first round 1-0 and the second 2-0.
