MANAMA, Aug 25 (GDN) : Bahrain's first expatriate coalition has been formed, it was announced yesterday. The Federation of Expat Associations will facilitate co-operation among civil societies for expatriates to promote common interests.
It aims to strengthen relations between all communities living in Bahrain by engaging them in activities and providing its members with assistance in healthcare, accommodation, work permits, travel bans and the legal rights of workers.
The Social Development Ministry said the founding organisations include the Bahrain-German Friendship Society, the Kerala Catholic Association and the Egyptian Expat Community.
"We are pleased with this initiative, which was brought forward by members of our expatriate community," said a government official.
"Bahrain is a very diverse society and expats play an integral part in our development. This federation will help them consolidate their interests to the benefit of all."
The group will also represent the country at international and regional conferences.
It will work to resolve disputes that arise between its member associations, in addition to expressing opinions on topics referred by the ministry.
