Washington, Sep 13 (IANS): The US Navy has sent two destroyers to Libyan waters after an American ambassador was killed in that country, a media report said Wednesday.
The ships will give President Barack Obama "flexibility", should his administration decide to take action against suspected militants in Libya, Xinhua quoted CNN as saying.
The deployment of USS Laboon and USS McFaul comes a day after gunmen attacked the US consulate in Benghazi, killing US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other US nationals.
The attack prompted the State Department to pull most of the embassy staff from Libya.
The Pentagon has also sent Marine Corps units to Tripoli to provide additional protection for the US diplomats still in the country.
