Mangalore: Infant Jesus School, Kavoor Celebrates Annual Day with 'Chinnara Habba'

Mangalore, Dec 23: Infant Jesus Higher Primary School, Maryhill, Kavoor celebrated it annual day 'Chinnara Habba' at its premises here on Thursday December 20.

Sr Christine Noronha, the joint secretary was the president for the occasion. Rudolph Pinto, vice-president of the parish pastoral council, Bondel Church was the chief guest for the day. Sr Carissima, the administrator and Sr Melissa, the principal of Mount Carmel School, Maryhill were the guests of honour.

At the beginning of the programme, following the Indian tradition, the dignitaries were welcomed by doing the 'aarthi' and were escorted by the school band. The programme began with a prayer song and it was being the festival of children (chinnara Habba) the students of classes 2 and 3, expressed their joy through the action song followed by the dances in Kannada and Tamil as well.

Headmistress Sr Sujyothi welcomed the dignitaries and offered them bouquets. Suguna briefed the audience with the annual report and the achievements of the school in the field of academics and co-curricular activities. The students those were excelled in academics and inter-school competitions were felicitated by the chief guest and the guests of honour.

Rudolph Pinto, the chief guest in his address congratulated the management and the staff for their dedicated services and assured his whole hearted co-operation and support to the school. He also emphasized on the influence of the media as it has a negative influence on the children. Hence, they do not possess the capacity to endure pain and suffering. As a Social Worker, he expressed his desire to serve the humanity irrespective of caste, creed and religion. His message touched the hearts of many as he said “the giving hands are more precious than the praying hands”.

Latha proposed the vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude towards all those who made this event a great success. Sr Premika, the assistant headmistress, whose committed service deserved all appreciation and praise, announced the names of the donors and thanked them profusely.

The cultural programme continued as the students of class 7 performed a Tulu dance followed by the other dances namely Nagara Hole (a Jungle dance) English skit, Konkani dance and a group song in English. Finally, the tableau was all about highlighting the importance of Christmas and the coming of Santa Claus was a exciting moment for all the children. All were thrilled by the excellent performance presented by the students and appreciated the good work of the school. With the exchange of greetings for Christmas and the New Year 2013, the curtain closed for this year’s celebration.
