Bantwal: Rice at Re 1 if Congress comes to power - Janardhan Poojary

Mounesh Vishwakarma
Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Mar 15: Former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary, announced that he would urge the state unit of his party to include the scheme of supplying rice to the needy at one rupee per kilogram in its election manifesto, if Congress is voted to power in the state in the coming assembly election.

He was addressing a meeting organized at Poonja Ground at B C Road here on Thursday March 14 by Bantwal and Panemangalore block Congress committees, to express gratitude to the voters and to congratulate victorious municipal councilors from his party.

Poojary also gave a clarion call to the party workers to get prepared for the task of defeating both the BJP and the Sangh Parivar in the ensuing state assembly election. Comparing the recent victory of Congress at various places in the state to a semifinal match, he asked them to muster their full strength for the final assault.

Poojary, who seemed to have got emotionally charged briefly during his address, launched a verbal tirade against RSS leader, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. He questioned Bhat as to why he was leading the youth on the wrong path instead of providing them proper guidance, thus making the young people to spend their days in jail. “Did you study MBBS course to mislead the youth?” he questioned, and called upon the party to own a bold stance to tackle the environment of fear that has set foot in Dakshina Kannada district because of RSS activities.

Former minister and president of Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee, B Ramanath Rai, who presided over the meeting, expressed gratitude on behalf of his party to the people, for elevating the party to power in the local municipal council. He said his party was committed to ensure that the environment in the district is free of any fear or pressure.

Earlier in the day, the newly elected councilors were brought to the venue in a vehicular procession from the main circle near B C Road. Absence of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Ahwani Kumar Rai, at this grandly organized rally was conspicuous.

Former MP, Vinay Kumar Sorake, while congratulating the newly elected councilors and thanking the voters, asked the people to vote Ramanath Rai as a legislator in the coming election. Various leaders like Bantwal block Congress president, Mayilappa Salian, Kodijal Ibrahim, Mamata Gatti, some corporators of Mangalore City Corporation, newly elected councilors, and a number of office bearers of the party units, were present.

I, a citizen commented.... out of 99 Rs i gave 40 rs to reddys both in Karnataka and Andhra so that there is a truce between both our leading parties and i am happy that both our beneficiaries are enjoying behind bars. 20 Rs i have given to DMK, AIADMK and supporting/ nonsupporting parties in Tamilnadu also brought in a third Party outside this country SRI LANKA for a duel regarding HUMAN RIGHTS. I am planing to give 19 Rs to Kerala, Kolkota and eastern states to arm Maoists. Iam going to give divide the remaining balance amount equally between both Modi and my state govt to formant trouble so any one of them can get into power in state or center..... story goes on

Very Sad.. Congress still in 1947. Giving same promises like Rise 1 Rs. Per KG. Why people are still such a poor condition. Or these people want poor people in the society. Think some innovative way by that you can make poor people in to self sufficient.

Mr. Janardhana Poojary is a veteran politician and is known for his simplicity, clean image and straight talks. He does not mince his words while speaking. Even though I do not endorse all his statements, only thing I can say that there is always truth in his statement.

He may be old but his contribution to the poor and downtrodden cannot be ignored. With his loan mela he ensured that even poor can get into the door steps of banks. He will be always there to support poor and week sections of the society. He has been active throughout with his efforts in bringing change in the society mindset of superstitious beliefs.

He has lost the elections by exposing some of the powerful people. He might have lost many times but he is still the darling of poor and a mass leader. Nobody can take away this from him.

Let us respect this veteran politician and there is no alternative for his leadership in Dakshina Kannada at the moment.

what you mentioned is the need of the hour and surely will be "well taken" by voters who are longing for those.
I hope Janardana P. and others like him reads this and immediately corrects his "Rs.1\-" to good governance commitment.
J.P. make yourself and other congress leaders to gear up to tackle situation like draught etc. in the state now itself. People will surely appreciate this kind of thinking and vote for you without reservation.
Will you be the role model for this kind of thinking to other partners in your Party?
All are eagerly watching your performance after INC's profound victory in ULB election.
If you understand the msgs. here, you will at once change your tactics from trying to bribe the voters to "earning" the votes!!!

Congress should promise that it will give a clean , peaceful administration. Focus on better electricity, water supply. Relief package for drought hit farmers. They must assure us that they will encourage MNC's and industries which will provide employment to local youngsters(also to those BD, HJV, Ram Sena jobless goons).

They should promote peace dialogue between different commmunities in communally sensitive Mangalore-Udupi region and assure that all goondas will be taken to court.

Poojary could have spoken of bringing down the State Excise duty on petrol like what Goa has done. Petrol which goes from MRPL by ship to goa and transported to the Goa - Karwar border is Rs 12 cheaper. Karwar residents travel 11 kms to the border, fill up their tanks and use it in Karwar. Karwar petrol pumps have thus no business.

Rony Mendonca, Moodabidri Poojary may distribute 5 kgs of Rice to 200 or 300 women in the Temple and with Temple funds. What is the economics behind this Rs 1/- kg rice ? Who is subsidising it and with who's money ? Let him distribute rice to 1.3 billion Indians at 25 paise a Kg but with the Temple funds and not the funds of the State / Country. Remember that 65% of the revenue collections are from the middle class people, directly or indirectly. Our State / country needs urgently infrastructure and good roads / water / drainage / power etc. Not "tamasha" like this. Politicians should think and talk.

The BJP has offered Rice at Rs 2/- kg. Now the Congress says it will give Rice at Rs 1/- kg. So what is the big difference between the Congress & the BJP ? Both parties are playing games at the tax payers expense.

I read all comments many of wrote negetive comments about Poojary but no body commented sensibly please read the passage carefully what he told,"He would urge the state unit of his party to include the scheme of supplying rice to the NEEDY at one rupee per k.g in its election manifesto
See he is giving rice to needy people we are all rich, still many peoples in karnataka can benifit this scheme dont blame Poojary without knowing. In this age also we should appreciate his spirit to help the poor people
I personnaly attended Janaury 1 st when he distributed 5k.g rice to womens and ladies freely to those who attended in Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple Mangalore in rememberence of Delhi gang rape victim. No women went empty hand everybody took 5.k.g packed rice. So please comment sensibly dont hurt Poojary, encorage him he is only politician attacking communal forces openly,He is better than yudirappa , Janardhan Reddy who went to jail by looting mines . The new hype from Mr Janardhan Poojary sounds good ,think if this comes true then Karnataka will be the only state in India which really practices this policy.
Now lets think practical as some of the commenters say here .1) Why they can only give rice at Re 1? why not other commodities like grains, pulses ,cereals, oil etc ? 2) So if you are giving rice at Re 1 then how will the poor farmers lead their life? 3)Is rice the only substance required for the daily life and how will you procure this material ? 4)If you are really helping the poor and the needy then why dont your party start from now, why waiting to get elected ? 5) Why Congress is really making this false promise ? 6)Why the party is not abiding by the muncipal rules and creating nuisance in the name of victory till 1:00 AM by loud music and vocal noice even after 10 PM .So please stop all these NONSENSE and Be Pratical and Stop Vote bank politics based on religion.

    Sandesh,
I agree with you. There are many to settle down. But to qualify, you need to show your income less than certain limit. This all depends on how best you are in getting the certificate from authority.
Please note this is subsidised item. That means Govt. will sponsor the balance cost Per Kg. How Govt will take additional burden ? They will tax the citizen. In turn Middle class and NRI are hit.
This is the trade secret ( Applicable to all Political Parties including NTR, JAYA all played the same cards).
The best thing any Govermnent can do/must do is to provde employment, Control Middle men run Market,Political and Bureaucratic Corruption, Red tapism, provide benifit to the farmer ( Producer) and benifit to the end user(Consumer).

Basically congress has no agenda. It has no dynamic leadership at all (practically no leader). Some aged grey hair leaders like Poojary are giving meaningless statements.Poojary has no authority to commit something on behalf of somebody else. Choosing congress will be equal disaster(Same like we chose BJP).We need to look into better options where state can improve. Corruption is/will be there in all parties but in fact we need choose somebody who can improve the state. Congress is justing banking on BJPS misrule and has no achievement of its own. There were several CMS from congress in past and we know the full story. State had significantly improved during Janata dal rule (Ramakrishna Hegde) who was responsible for Panchayat Raj today and providing water to rural areas in the state.

Dear Mr. Please stop this dirty game. people are not so poor to desire for your 1 rupee rice. Instead work equality of treatment of all the citizens of the land. use your power to bring in safety , security for girls and women. Stop the corrupt domination and injustice to the poor and helpless by the village Panchayat representatives. Stop moral policing and let everyone enjoy the fruits of democracy.Attend the grievances of people without political bias.
If you can't do any of these please stay from politics as the Congress party do better without stupid old heads like you. I hate politicians like you who give cheap promises. make the girl child secure, give justice to the helpless.

and why not implement barter system like in the olden days?
Now-a-days the increasing prices does not make any sense.
We should get good vegetables, fish n meat in exchange for old clothes or unused items etc.,

How long will the political parties resort to this kind of spoon-feeding tactics? If they provide free education to the poor children so that one day they can stand on their feet, then the politicians can’t loot the country. Same is the case if they provide livelihood opportunities for the poor. This is the only trick the political parties have to keep the poor still poor perennially.

    Poojaryyy,

Half of the Paddy fields in South Canara are kept idle. No one is cultivating because of cost of expenses involved and outcome of it. Very difficult to find people for work and you are promising Rice Re 1 per kg.!!!!!!!!

From whose Locker are you going to loot it? Its better all farmers stop cultivating the rice. What they will get in return? And above all it shows how Politicians can loot poor people openly without any ones fear or shame!!!.

Do you think you will get vote now?

Any sensible person can think twice "how this person can give rice at Re 1 per KG?".

    All false commitments na?

Why you people die to get Post in politics? To fill your Bank Balances and build big big bungalows?

Do want our South Canara farmers also face same fate like the Vidharba in Maharashtra?

These populist measures of giving rise at Rs1,2,3 and also 30kg free. Free TV's, laptops, mixi etc etc. The MNREGS scheme where money is dolled without work also has resulted in the difficulty getting people to do work in different places in the country. One thing is true, to give rice at 1Rs/kg Poojary has to only kill the farmer and give. If it happens like how nationalised backs went almost went bankrupt due to Sala mela by failing to recover the money given to Thoma Thukras, farmers will have to commit suicide or India has to import rice also & GDP ki Aisi ki taise. Unless Janardhan Poojary & Ramanath Rai, Motamma & rest of the congis them selves raise their pants, get into paddy feild, sow the seen & reap the yield in the fields of in & around Undivided DK whoes owners have left cultivating due to incresed labour cost & lack of Govts packages & plans to encourage education. RICE & Kerosene is the sensitive issues for these politicians to talk about during election especially to the rural one. Ella votigaagi, garigari notigaagi.

Pl do not forget that the wave breezing against BJP in the state as seen from ULB elections is not because of Congress culture/achievements but people wanted to teach a lesson to BJP for their lathargic attitudes towards soceity, mismanagement of admn, breach od trust and corrupt nature.People have seen Congress rule for the last half a century and fully conversant with it.Those who betrayed the voters will eat the dust...that is the natural choice.Prople have no other choice.
