Mangalore: Computerized tickets in all city buses soon

Mangalore, Mar 16: Regional transport officer, C Mallikarjuna, assured that computerized tickets would be issued by all the city buses soon.

He was speaking after participating as chief guest at a function organized in the city on Friday March 15 to celebrate World Consumers Day, and distribute consumer education certificates.

“Several buses here have already been issuing computerized tickets. Ticketing machines will soon be provided to all other buses during this year. There have been numerous complaints against bus drivers, conductors, and cleaners. We are taking steps to address them, and to educate the concerned to behave decently and respectfully with the general public,” he clarified.

The programme was inaugurated by deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, N Prakash. He said that there is a need to create further awareness in the district about consumer rights. “The consumers should not keep mum after filing a complaint. They should follow up the complaints till they are redressed,” he advised.

President of the district consumer organizations, M J Salian, talked about consumer awareness.  The programme, which was held at Ravindra Kalabhavan of the university college here, was presided over by the college principal, Dr H R Lakshminarayana Bhatta.

Deputy director in the department of food and civil supplies, Sharanabasappa, welcomed. Prof T N Sridhar from the college, Ganesh from the department of legal metrology, and others were present.
