Thank You : In 24 hours, readers assure home for this couple...

Mangalore, Jun 11

Dear readers,

We at daijiworld are delighted and truly touched that the our generous readers once again rose to the occasion to help a deserving family, this time the much in need, homeless couple Padmanabha Moolya and Nagamma of Bajpe

The couple lost their house in an accidental fire, and ever since then, living with much difficulty, pain and sorrow. Now, all of sudden they have found a new hope in the form of daijiworld readers world-wide who responded to the online appeal positively, assuring about Rs four lac within 24 hours of the appeal being published.

The couple own 3-4 cents of land. The local gram panchayat members have assured speedy beginning and progress of work. Eric Correa will support in the supervision of building, while Tulu cine actor Bhojaraj Vamanjoor has assured to take up fabrication work at minimum cost.

Daijiworld's Brijesh Garodi who initiated the step to support this couple will follow up the work. Sahul Hameed of Bajpe also pledged his support in the supervision of construction work.

We will involve bank officials also to see that the money from account goes at the right time for the right purpose.

This is another proud moment for all of us, and brings enormous satisfaction. Perhaps, there is no greater satisfaction than reaching out to the needy people around us.

We thank you for keeping faith on us and supporting this cause without even a second thought. Like in the past, your support which gave life to hundreds of individuals, institutions, and families, this too will go down in annals of history.

Below is the list of donors which speaks volume of the height humanity has reached to. Several people have already transferred the amount online, the rest have assured to do so in due course.

With this note of gratitude we close this appeal, with a promise to keep you updated on further progress.

Thank You

Walter Nandalike

Come, let us build a home for this needy couple

Brijesh Garodi
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jun 10: When tragedy befell this couple at Bajpe, it was almost like the end of the world for them, for it not only ruined their hard-earned savings, it snatches away their shelter and reduced it to ashes.

Padmanabha Moolya (52) and Nagamma (45), married 22 years ago, were residing in Bajpe Baalike, Moolyara Kodi, 6th ward of Bajpe gram panchayat. The couple have no children and Padmanabh is a coolie worker while Nagamma helps him by rolling bidis. Their monthly income comes to around Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 per month.

From their meagre but hard-earned income, they saved every little penny they could, and about 10 years ago, built a small thatched hut for themselves.

Leading their life together with what they little had, the couple had lived happily until May 15 this year, when fate turned against them. It was at around 4 pm that day that tragedy struck.

Their hut was surrounded by fields where the grass dries up during the summer. A small, accidental fire that broke out in a corner of the field, spread in no time and reached their hut.

Padmanabh and Nagamma who were nearby, noticed the fire and rushed to douse it with water and mud, but all their efforts were in vain. In a matter of seconds, their hut was gutted in the fire, leaving behind just ashes and pain.

All the items inside, including their ration card and a few other valuable documents, along with their hard earned Rs 1,500, kept for emergency purposes, turned to ashes.

The financial position of the couple is such that they have nothing left now. All they need is a roof over their heads. The couple currently cook their food out in the open, store their food and other things under a tarpaulin, and sleep in a neighbour’s house at night.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Padmanabh and Nagamma say that they want nothing except a house to live in. It was their hard earned money that they had invested in their hut, but now they are left with just pain and sorrow.

Sahul Hameed, former president and sitting member of Bajpe gram panchayat, says that he has known the couple for nearly 20 years and that their present financial status is pitiful. “We are very sad to know of this incident. From the panchayat, only Rs 300 will be sanctioned and with special recommendations, it can be increased to Rs 500,” he said.

Surendra Pergade, former president and sitting member, Bajpe gram panchayat and a neighbor of the couple, says that he knows them since birth. “Theirs is a hard working family. We have personally helped them with Rs 1,000-odd sum, but that is not sufficient. The family is indeed in need of help,” he said.

When Daijiworld contacted Eric Correa, the brain behind Souharda Nagara which has provided housing to several needy families, he happily agreed to assist in this project. Eric has built more than 60 houses for the shelterless poor, and another 30-plus houses are under construction.

Eric, who has a practical knowledge about construction of small houses has estimated the total area of the house to be approx 400 sq ft. The total cost of the construction and finishing of the house has been estimated at Rs 3.5 lac, he said.

With regard to the fabrication work required for the house, especially the roof, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, well-known Tulu drama artiste and movie actor, who is also the proprietor of Shivanugraha fabrications, Kaikamba, has agreed to join hands with this project at low cost and profitless margin.

The entire team would consist of Eric Correa, Bhojaraj Vamanjur, Surendra Pergade, Sahul Hameed and the daijiworld team, who will begin the project soon after the necessary funds are collected.

Individuals, philanthropists and organizations and others are requested to contribute towards this cause.

Dear readers,

We will keep this appeal open until a contribution of Rs 4 lac is assured towards this cause. We will also supervise the house construction, with the help of Eric Correa, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and other like-minded persons as mentiond in the above article.

Those who would like to contribute, please fill the simple form and pledge your support. You can make an instant bank tranfer (or do so even at a later date), or send a crossed cheque to the bank directly (address given above & below), or even can pay cash by convienent arrangements.

We will be happy to publish the name of the donor, so that it will inspire others. If you do not wish your name to be published, we will put initials or any given name.

Please make sure that a building licence is secured from the Panchayat / Authority. If not some Govt. agency will come and demolish it rendering them homeless again. These things happen so one has to be extra careful. The courts too do not run on sympathy but by the rule of law.

It is something great to see the number of donors and philanthropists. Special thanks to Daijiworld for this effort. May God bless the families of these donors.

With unexpected fire occurrence the poor couple have lost everything and we should feel pity on them. Many good hearted persons have donated money to this good cause which shows their humanity and generosity in helping for the noble cause to provide a new shelter to them Of course Daijiworld has also helped the needy in many previous such occassions which deserved to be praised. Eric correa has also done a good job in this regard. God bless you all specially daijiworld and team.

I hope more websites follow the good work done by Daijiworld. In today's world we spend time blaming others, talking jealous, doing and thinking bad to others. Sometimes we all have to do some good work also.

Hats off to Daijiworld and Walter Nandalike for brining us together to help in this noble cause. A small suggestion. It would be nice if a little more money is collected to purchase some basic needs such as furniture, clothes, kitchen utensils etc. God bless all the kind hearted people. May their tribe prosper.

Hats off to Eric, Bhojraj,Surendra, sahul and Daiji team for their humanity in lending a helping hand to Padmanabha and nagamma , in their pathetic condition.
First and foremost make sure that they are the true owners of the land so that the question of unauthorised construction may not creep up later.
Secondly the couple have no children. After their death who will possess this property. This issue has to be solved simultaneously.
Let them live happily with the generosity of the hundrends and may god bless the donors abundantly.

    Dear Friends,
I am a resident of UAE, I am not so well to do, but this news story really made me think and made me decide to donate for a just cause.
The total cost expected is 3.5 Lakhs, so if 350 people of us donate 1000 rupees each, the purpose is served and the Good Lord will definitely bless us all.
In todays conversion rate, it is only 65 Dirhams ( 1000 rupees ) to help them !!
I just now transferred 1000 Rupees to the account of Nagamma using internet banking, and now I feel so happy, proud and content that I am part of their home, stability in life and Happiness.
Come on brothers and sisters, just count our blessings that how lucky we have been and that God has blessed us with good jobs and homes. Let us share our joy and happiness of life with this poor couple, and let us make them happy too.
It takes a few moments and ONLY 349 People more to make their dream come true.
    God bless us all.
