Bengal firm to distribute power in Gaya


Kolkata, Aug 15 (IANS): The Kolkata-headquartered DPSC has received a letter of intent for distribution and supply of electricity to Bihar's Gaya and adjoining areas, according to a company statement.

The company (formerly known as Dishergarh Power Supply Company Ltd) received the LOI from South Bihar Power Distribution Co. Ltd. (SBPDCL) for appointment as a distribution franchise in Gaya Town and adjoining areas.

The licence area is around 190 sq km and involves one lakh consumers.

Upon acceptance of the terms and conditions, DPSC will enter into a Distribution Franchisee Agreement with the authorities concerned.

"If everything goes right, we may start distributing and supplying power within six to eight months," said a DPSC spokesperson.

DPSC, one of the oldest power utility companies in India, was incorporated in 1919 in West Bengal.

The company generates 12 MW from its coal-based thermal power plant at Dishergarh, West Bengal. In the transmission and distribution space, the company has a licence for supply of electricity in and around Asansol-Ranigunj area spread over 618 sq km.
