Mangalore, Feb 18: The Golden Jubilee of Leonard Cheshire International and 40 years of Cheshire Home International was celebrated in a distinct manner at School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya on Thursday.
A seminar on ‘Disability’ and an exhibition on the works of Cheshire Home International marked the celebrations.

“One in every 100 persons in India has a physical disability excluding the blind and the deaf, Dr Shetty said reasons for disability include trauma, industrial mishaps, congenital anomalies and diseases of bones and joints.
The country has as many as 10 million physically challenged persons and there is a need for proper management and rehabilitation of the challenged individuals. Rehabilitation, Dr Shetty said is a fairly new branch of medical science that deals with physical, mental, economic and religious well-being of a person.
It requires the team work comprising doctors, social workers, physiotherapists, vocational counsellors, religious support and support of the family and government.
Speaking on the occasion, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Principal Jacinta D'Souza called upon the public to be sensitive to the differently abled who need care and attention.
Mangalore Cheshire Home Chairman Blasius D'Souza presided while Honorary Secretary Terry Vaz was present. Later at noon, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya president Theresa D'Souza inaugurated an exhibition of products prepared by the inmates.
