Vienna, Sep 17 : The Mangalorian Community in Vienna celebrated the Nativity of Mother Mary (Monti Fest) on the 14th of September at Alserkirche. The festivity commenced at 4:30 PM with the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Rathan Nicholas Almeida, OCD. In his homily, he reminded the faithful that we all have to contribute generously, try and reform our families so that they reflect and demonstrate qualities, seen in the Holy Family of Nazareth. The role of a mother in the family was highlighted and certain awareness was created as regards respect towards her.
After the recessional hymn all proceeded towards the hall in procession with the statue of Mother Mary. In the hall after a short prayer, flowers were offered to Mother Mary as hymns were being sung. The new corn was blessed and consumed after mixing it in milk.
Then started the entertainment program. Variety of games were conducted and timely jokes were cracked and the entire floor did burst into laughter. Winners were duly awarded. Fr. Rathan thanked one and all for the generous contribution and goodwill of the community members. Finally Fr. Arul, OCD prayed grace over the meals and all participated in the dainty dishes that were prepared by our families. The menu of the day was only vegetables which not only marked our traditional celebration but was also a moment of thanksgiving to God for the blessings that he showers on us through the mother earth.
The contribution of the SRA sisters was remarkable. They were instrumental in decorating the altar, the hall and they also led the faithful in a prayerful atmosphere through their singing. Rev. Sr. Vincentia, SRA, assistant General of the Congregation of the Queen of Apostles, was honored and also congratulated for supporting the choir through her music.
It was indeed a remarkable celebration and all took along with them sweet moments of joy and happiness as they left the hall.
