Mangalore: Help young Soumya get new lease of life

Thank You : Readers help Soumya with Rs 2.12 lac...

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 19: Soumya, daughter of well-known face in Cha Parka troupe, the late Mahesh Shaktinagar, needed Rs 2.4 lac to get a lifeline in the form of a surgery (Read the appeal below for more details)

Rs 80,000 was collected by the family through wellwishers, for the balance amount the family had requested daijiworld to carry an online appeal.

After thorough investigation by Daijiworld's Brijesh Garodi, we found that she was in dire need of financial assistance, considering her humble background.

On Thursday September 19 morning, daijiworld put up an appeal, and as always, generous readers responded to the appeal by instantly pledging their support to the cause. Rs 1.8 lac was assured within four hours of the appeal going online. However, the help kept pouring in even after the appeal was officially closed, and as on Friday September 21, the total financial help pledged stands at Rs 2.12 lac.

Daijiworld thanks all the readers for keeping faith in our appeals and supporting the needy time and again.

Acknowledgement from family along with her medical update will be published in the coming weeks.

As her immediate medical expenses have been met through the total amount pledged so far, we will close this appeal. However, those who would like to support the family further may still contribute.

Mangalore: Help young Soumya get new lease of life

Brijesh Garodi
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 19: Soumya, daughter of Mahesh K Shaktinagar and Kusuma is a resident of Shaktinagar. Her father Mahesh alias Mahalinga is a well-known drama artist who has acted in various plays of ‘Telikeda Bolli’ in Devdas Kapikad’s ‘Bale Cha Parka’ troupe. Mahesh passed away in April 2012.

Hailing from a financially backward family, Soumya struggled hard and completed her BEd from Premakanthi College, Mannagudda. She completed her schooling and college from St Agnes College, Bendore. She was a bright and active student, both in academics and co-curricular activities.

Fate struck a cruel blow six years ago when she had a slight pain in her thumb and she could not write or bend her fingers. After she started medication for this pain, it spread to her whole hand and she couldn’t even move her hand properly. On the advise of some well-wishers, she tried Ayurveda and other types of medicines as well.

Two years ago, all of a sudden, she felt pain in her knee and within a few days was unable to walk. She had to take help from others to move around.  Soumya now lives with her mother and sister. Her mother works in a hotel nearby while her sister works in a private hospital in the city.

Soumya recently had a check-up and a blood test and her reports showed she was RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) positive. Doctors have said that she can be completely cured and be normal like before if she undergoes surgery.

Renowned consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon Dr Mahesh K has offered to carry out her surgery at a minimal cost of Rs 2,40,000.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Dr Mahesh said that she has been suffering from arthritis to both knee joints and requires surgery involving total knee replacement on both sides. As she is still young, preferably imported implants are to be installed in her knees. She will be completely cured and able to walk like before without any support. The surgery will be carried out in Mangalore Nursing Home and the total time required will be four hours—two hours for each knee.

Of the Rs 2.4 lac required for the treatment, Rs 80,000 has been collected so far with the help of generous donors, but she still requires Rs 1.7 lac to meet the costs.

We would hereby like to request our readers to please come forward and help generously in this noble cause.  As she is a young girl with a BEd degree she will be able to lead a complete life and help support her family once she is cured.

We will close the appeal once the required amount is pledged.

Dear Soumya, apart from help,I just would like to suggest you something.whether you will follow you or not left to you.
Just yesterday I saw in TV:about People who suffer Neurological or Rheuma like you, they were put on ketalogische diet .It was carried out by Berlins charite Klinik(very famous)as Research.and it was very successful.Patients who followed it are suffered like MS:RHEUMA and neurological disease.first they found difficult to adjust but later they felt some Change is taking place in their Body and theyy are on the way to get better day by day. so I suggest try that. You have to avoid in your Food complete Rice .potatoes bread ,(starch Food)and sugar.but oil, butter, milk egg ,vegetables can be taken .first you will certainly without Rice ,sugar etc.may feel out of yourself.but if you think ist for the nerves better you will get accustomed to it.wish you allthe best. You must have heard about a film Lorenzos oil. Its the real Story in Italien.and this oil is available but very costly. But we get olive ol which is very healthy.

    Mr. Ramachandra Kini
When recall Jesus Christ in your comments, you must know what Christ said "Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing"? (Matthew 6:3).
The people who don’t want to publish or hide their names on the page are rewarded by God
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets whatever you do will be rewarded by God
    Here, I agree with Rita
    Hope, you got it

Mahesh was seen in majority of the dramas in a comedy role who always used to make others laugh, but the true story in his life has been revealed. How hard it might have been for him to do this while his family was in a distressed state. Hats off to you Mahesh, you will have jovial and happy days ahead. May God bless you and your family with prosperity......

I don't have words to express my appreciation to the donors. We visited her place this morning for a reason we knew her father very well and he took care of my children to school for almost 7 years. Its a god given opportunity through Daiji,i got in touch with them again. If possible you can also help the family to repair their house which is in very bad shape.

Sad story. Great to see such a cross section of society coming forward to help / reach out. In the earlier days people used to write " we will pray for you " , without even sending a Ten Rupee note.

To all the philanthropists, You have done a great job before Christ. God Bless you all and your families.

Dear R:kini,if you are donating or did, welcome. But please dont judge others.you dont know the Situation of others and there are People who donate without announcing in the front page.and even wellwishers with prayers are also not bad.whereas a Operation should be successful with Gods help.

Rita is right. One should avoid making a judgement based on an assumption, especially in this matter.

I can understand who R.Kini was aiming his accusation at but in doing so it is better to properly clarify, lest you be misunderstood or you might unintentionally offend others.

It is a very unfortunate situation to see one of the well known artist family suffering this way. The above picture is from the Naataka “Dever Nadapaaver” If am not wrong & I guess it was the they performed in Dubai 2 or 3 years back at Al Nasr the same skit. I came to know just now that Mahesh Shaktinagar has passed away. Very sad to know this. He was one of the talented actor in Bale Cha parka troup, but saddned to see his economic condition. I hope even the Cha=Parka troup headed by Devdas Kapikad comes forward and helps the family of a man who has served this troup.
