Kundapur, Oct 20: A modern bus stop that will put the government bus stops to shame has come up in Goliangadi here. The bus stop is neither built by any businessman nor the government. It is the result of selfless service of Karuna Belaku, a non-profit trust. The bus stop constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 lac will be inaugurated on Sunday, October 20 by the gram panchayat.
The reason for naming it as a model bus stop is the material used in the construction such as the tiles laid to the ground, the granite used for the seats, the non-corrosive stainless steel railings and the iron roof. All these appear to be of high quality.
When the government constructs bus stops where even standing is difficult, this bus stop provides facilities that are beyond expectations. There are two tube lights for passengers' convenience at nights. There are two plug points to charge laptops. Multi-pin chargers are arranged to charge mobiles. Drinking water facility will also be made available with the assistance from the panchayat, according to Belve Vasanth Kumar Shetty, head of the trust.
About Karuna Belaku
Bangalore resident Vasanth Kumar Shetty has been involved in social service for the last five years under the guidance of Bangalore resident Anagalli Karunakar Hegde. Financial assistance to economically weak girls while getting married, wheel chair for the physically challenged, tailoring machines for self-employment, and financial assistance to build houses for the weaker section of people are some of the programmes undertaken by the trust. "Building a toilet or a bus stop for the people will be more pleasing to God than building ten temples," they say.
