New Delhi, Dec 3: 33-year-old Anu Mukherjee who was a victim of an acid attack and rendered blind as a result was appointed by the Supreme Court as a Junior Court Attendant at the behest of Judge Kurian Joseph. Judge Kurian heard of her tragic story in the media and took the initiative to get her a living.
Mukhejee had acid thrown at her by a man who it is believed was acting on behalf a woman who worked at the same dance bar as Mukherjee. The other woman's jealousy cost Anu her eyes and her livelihood. Judge Kurian said that he did what he could for the unfortunate woman, wholly on humanitarian grounds.
Judge Kurian is also working with three other judges to get the Government to regulate the sale of acid in the country . They wish to bring about regulations that require anyone purchasing acid to possess a valid identification and license for the same in order to make it easier to nab anyone who might be suspect.
Judge Kurian further explained that when he heard of the incident two months ago, he placed his own female family members in the same situation as the victim and acted exactly as he would do for his own family.
