Himachal to market rare timber species

Shimla, Dec 11 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh will take the global tendering route to market the rare species of timber available in the state, an official said here Wednesday.

A Himachal Pradesh Forest Corporation website would be launched soon containing the relevant information about the state's forest wealth and marketing tactics for the sale of the best timber, state-run forest corporation vice-chairman Kewal Singh Pathania said.

Presiding over a meeting of the committee on diversification of crop management, he said the possibility of manufacturing bamboo goods and furniture for sale at profitable rates to increase the corporation's income is being explored.

Pathania said the furniture requirements of all the departments are being worked out where the demand would be met through the corporation which would get quality furniture made at its units in Shamshi, Hamirpur and Baijnath.

"Effective steps would be undertaken to increase the corporation's sales by selling timber through its depots at Manthuwala near Nahan, Nurpur, Baddi, Hanotu, Bhaderwa and Chamba based upon the different varieties of wood available in such depots," he added.
