Mangalore, Jan 8: "Earlier during the time of MLA elections, minister Ramanath Rai had said that his fight was directly with Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. He had said that he would put Prabhakar Bhat behind bars as soon as he became MLA. What has happened to that promise now? But U T Khadar and Rai do not have the guts to arrest Prabhakar Bhat," said Eliyas Mohammed, national secretary, Popular Front of India (PFI).
He was addressing a protest organized by PFI on Wednesday, January 8 in front of DC's office here, against the alleged defamatory and provocative statements made during the recent Hindu Sangama in Gurpur.
"Sangh Parivar is trying to spark communal violence in the district as the Lok Sabha elections are nearing, but it is impossible as there are PFI activists everywhere and we will not allow it to happen at any cost. They (Sangh Parivar leaders) are now trying to create fear among the people by passing provocative statements," he alleged.
"RSS has been issuing statements that the Hindus will be safe in future only if they vote for the BJP. Their prime goal is to get back all the votes that were diverted from the BJP in the last elections. Thus they have been passing provocative statements and trying to create communal disharmony," he added.
"Right from 1925, the year RSS was founded, its members have been attacking the minority community in all ways and that is also their prime agenda. All the incidents of communal violence that have taken place in the district are examples for this," he said.
"It is a fact that some police officers have also been supporting the Prabhakar Bhat, Jagadish Shenava, Chakravarthi Sulibele and others, and that’s the main reason for their growth," he alleged.
He concluded by putting forth a few questions before the government and the district administration:
- "Why are there no cases against Prabhakar Bhat, Jagadeesh Karanth, Jagadish Shenava, Sulibele and others?"
- "Can we also pass such provocative or defamatory statements like them?
- "Former chief minister D V Sadanand Gowda has warned the district administration against registering on Prabhakar Bhat; will the administration register case against him also?"
- "RSS has been carrying out processions holding talwars in hand. Will the administration allow us to do that?"
He also criticized the police department for inviting Prabhakar Bhat as a guest for the inauguration of police commissionerate's new building.
Other leaders also spoke on the occasion and lambasted Bhat for passing provocative statements against the Muslim community.
A M Athaullah, district president, PFI, Anwar Sadath, state committee member, SDPI, Abdul Razak, state vice-president, PFI, Hameed Kandak, vice-president, Muslim Central Committee, Shafi Bellare, president, PFI Puttur Division, Anand Mitthabail, convenor, Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, Aboobakar Kulai, president, SDPI, Rafiuddin Kudroli, president, UNIVEF and others were present on the occasion.
