As rain continues to lash the twin districts, the Thumbe vented dam, the only source of water to the city is brimming with water. The dam was recorded as full and some of its 182 sluices gates, which are usually opened on June 5, have been already opened by the Mangalore City Corporation.

In the last 24 hours, ending 6 pm on Thursday June 1, Sullia has received 51.8 mm of rainfall while other taluks in the district recorded a rainfall as follows: Beltangady 49.6 mm, Puttur 36.4 mm, Bantwal 31.2 mm, Bajpe airport 28 mm, Uppinangady 20.6 mm and Mangalore 20.4 mm.

Udupi district averaged a rainfall of 140.0 mm on Wednesday May 31 night and Thursday June 1. Karkala recorded a rainfall of 158.4 while in Kundapur received a rainfall of 133.2 mm. The rainfall in Udupi taluk was 128.4 mm. Luckily, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported.

However, sea erosion continued and officials are keeping a strict vigil. Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj visited some rain-hit areas in Udupi on Thursday June 1 where rain has affected traffic as well as the work initiated by Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Project (KUDCEMP).
