NATO chief to visit Slovakia

Brtislava (Slovakia), May 12 (IANS): NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is set to visit Slovakia Wednesday to meet Slovakia's top officials and evaluate the country's 10 years as a NATO member, the defence ministry said Sunday.

It will be Rasmussen's third visit to Slovakia as NATO chief.

"Among the issues that are likely to be debated are the evaluation of Slovakia's ten-year membership of NATO, developments in Ukraine and issues pertaining to NATO's further engagement in Afghanistan after the ISAF operation is concluded," Xinhua quoted the Slovakian defence ministry's spokesperson Martina Ballekova as saying.

Rasmussen is due to be replaced in the post of NATO secretary-general by Norwegian politician Jens Stoltenberg Oct 1.
