Beltangady, Jul 12: Road transport between Dakshina Kannada and Chikamagalur districts may soon stop following landslide at Jenukallu on Charmady Ghat, said sources.
Despite landslide, vehicles are still moving on the road. But the locals say that this cannot go on for long as day-by-day the road too is collapsing without being able to bear the load of heavy vehicles.
This road is the main link between Kadur-Kanghagad too. At the same time the road also links Sakleshpur, and Chikamagalur district with Dharmastala and Mangalore. But negligence by the concerned persons may soon this main road link.
The officials have issued an order that lorries carrying heavy loads, lorries with 10 wheels, bullet tankers etc should not ply via this route. However, just like any other rule, here too the rule in just on papers. These heavy vehicles ply on the road in the night by bribing the concerned persons, said locals.
Now the landslide at Jenukallu has emerged as big threat to transports on the route. Jenukallu is on the border of Beltangady and Moodigere taluks. On the left there is a temple dedicated to Lord Ayaapa. There is a steep curve and the road too is very narrow here almost meant for one-way traffic. It is always difficult for the heavy vehicles here for movement.
Here the side protection wall has been damaged. So the drivers are extra careful while driving here. Now from a few days, the road too has collapsed making movement of traffic almost impossible. It is quite difficult to broaden the road owing to hill on the left.
So unless the concerned persons take action, soon there would be news that Charmady Ghat has been closed down for any kind of traffic.
