ISAF soldier killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, June 5 (IANS): A soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in a militant attack in Afghanistan Thursday, the alliance said.

"An International Security Assistance Force service member died as a result of an enemy forces attack in eastern Afghanistan today," Xinhua quoted a statement of the multinational force as saying.

However, it did not disclose the nationality of the victim and the exact place of the incident, because "it is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities".

Troops mostly from the US have been serving in the eastern region of Afghanistan.

A total of 34 service members with the NATO-led ISAF forces, including 23 Americans, have been killed so far this year in Afghanistan.
