74-year-old caught molesting 8-year-old

Mumbai, Jun 6 (Mid-day) : A senior citizen was arrested for molesting an eight-year-old girl after the incident was captured on a mobile phone by a neighbour. The private tuition teacher was arrested after the girl’s parents complained to the DN Nagar police.

Cops said Rajendra Raghunath Shrivastav (74), had been sexually abusing her for the past few months. He conducts evening private tuition classes, and the Std III girl would also attend the sessions. He would molest her after the class, threatening to cause physical harm to her and her parents if she told on him.

A neighbour managed to capture the act through the window a few weeks ago. A police officer said, “The video was seen by several people in the area. People recognised the old man and the girl. The video shows both without clothes, and the man is molesting her.”

When the girl’s parents came to know of the clip, they asked her about it. The child confided in them, following which her parents lodged a case. The accused was booked under Section 354A (sexual harassment) and sections of the Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was produced in Andheri court and remanded in police custody.
The man stays alone in his apartment and police said he might have abused two other students, whose statements will also be taken.
