Mangalore, Aug 10: The Quit India Movement memorial day was organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation at Tagore Park here on Wednesday August 9.
After hoisting the national flag, mayor K Ashraf said that while Mahatma Gandhi’s call inspired several people to give up their personal life and join the freedom struggle, separatist elements today are trying to divide the people in the name of caste and religion. He urged the youth to distance themselves from existing differences, and work towards developmental works.
Also present were Octavia Albuquerque, honorary president, Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation, Purushothama Shetty, president, among others.
Nearly 150 students participated in the singing and debate competitions held on the occasion.
