Puttur, Aug 15: A decision to upgrade the Nelyadi police outpost into a full-fledged police station was taken at a joint meeting of the police and the people held at Uppinangady recently. The decision has been taken following a continuous increase in criminal activities in the Uppinangady police station limits in the last couple of years.
Though 14 villages come under the ambit of Nelyadi outpost, there are only 5 police personnel in the station. This has made it difficult for the police to respond to people's need. Citing this, the people had been demanding for a full-fledged police station from long. Puttur rural circle inspector Manjunath Rai who had presided over the meeting said that a proposal in this regard would be submitted to the government in the coming days.
He said that the department cannot implement the decision but it can only submit a proposal to the government. He also appealed the elected representatives to put in their efforts in this regard.
ZP member Shayana Jayanand, TP members Radhakrishna Borker, A Eshwar Bhat, Madhav Gowda were also present on the occasion. Presidents and office bearers of various organizations and gram panchayats too were present during the meeting.
