Rajya Sabha disrupted over derogatory article

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): The Rajya Sabha was disrupted Monday as AIADMK members protested against a derogatory article on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As soon as the upper house met, AIADMK members were on their feet raising slogans. Despite repeated pleas from Chairman M. Hamid Ansari, the members trooped near the chairman's podium.

Ansari then adjourned the house for 15 minutes.

The scene remained the same when Rajya Sabha reassembled, forcing the chairman to adjourn the house till noon.

"Ten members are holding the house to ransom... this is unbecoming of members of parliament," Ansari said before adjourning the house.

An objectional article about J. Jayalalithaa and Modi was published on Sri Lanka's defence ministry website last week, and was taken down in a hurry.

Sri Lanka also offered "unqualified apology" over the article.
