Albino crocodile devours fisherman in Australia

Sydney, Aug 19 (IANS/EFE): An albino crocodile killed a 57-year-old Australian man who was fishing in a river, media reported Tuesday.

The man was attacked Monday by the 4.7 metre-long reptile when he waded into the Adelaide river to try and retrieve a snagged fishing line, The Australian daily said.

The fisherman's wife told authorities she heard her husband scream and when she turned all she saw was the tail of the crocodile disappearing into the river and no sight of her husband.

Police and wildlife officers searched the river Monday night and shot dead a crocodile in whose stomach they found human remains.

The Northern Territory, where the attack took place, has the largest population of these reptiles in Australia.

The last such incident occurred in June, also in the Northern Territory, when a 62-year-old fisherman was snatched by a crocodile.
