Three Italian nuns killed in Africa

Rome, Sep 8 (IANS): The Italian foreign ministry Monday confirmed reports that three Italian nuns were killed in the African country of Burundi.

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the killing of Sister Lucia Pulici and Sister Olga Raschietti in their convent in Kamenge," Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini said in a statement.

The name of the third victim has not been released yet, Xinhua reported.

According to sources, the nuns may have been killed during a robbery attempt.

Mogherini said the Italian government was waiting for the authorities in Burundi to clarify what happened.

"We will do everything in our power to bring the bodies of the nuns home to Italy as soon as possible," Mogherini added.
