US official quarantined after syringe attack in N

Washington, Sep 9 (IANS): A US air marshal who was stabbed with a needle full of unknown substance in Nigeria has been placed under quarantine Tuesday for possibly contracting the Ebola virus or HIV.

The air marshal, who works under the Transportation Security Administration and wore plain clothes instead of uniform, was attacked Sunday in the Lagos airport while boarding a flight to Houston in Texas, Xinhua reported.

The attacker fled after injecting an unknown substance into one of the air marshal's arms, the reports said, adding that the air marshal removed the needle and placed it into a secured container.

He did not exhibit any signs of illness during the flight and was sent to a hospital upon landing for further testing. None of the tests that have been conducted indicated any danger to other passengers.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which plans to test the needle, is now investigating the attack.
