Kochi, Sep 11 (IANS): A group of 24 women in Kerala has received training to give traditional post-pregnancy care to clients under a project to revive the state's traditional massage therapies.

These women hailing from the lower strata of the society were trained by an organisation called "Soothika".

Rekha Babu, CEO of Soothika, told IANS that under the project "Soothikashree", the organisation was trying to revive the traditional massage therapies combined with contemporary music therapies built on classical raagas and using smart phone technologies.

"We have trained 24 women from four Kerala districts, who had undergone a two-month training under experts and are now qualified therapists to take care of new born and mothers by giving them massages using medicated ayurvedic oils."

"The cost for a 28-day programme is Rs.15,000 and Soothika will supply the medicated oils to the therapists and it will cost around Rs.5,000," said Babu.
