Pakistan again targets Indian positions in Kashmir


Jammu, Oct 6 (IANS): Breaching the ceasefire again, the Pakistani army opened unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district Monday evening, a defence official said.

"Pakistan carried out unprovoked ceasefire violation using mortars in Kerni sector of the LoC in Poonch. The firing started at 5.40 p.m. and continued till 6 p.m.," defence spokesman, Col. Manish Mehta told IANS.

He said Indian troops made an "equal effective response".

Pakistan army earlier Monday opened unprovoked firing in Bhimber Ghali area of the LoC in the same district, while indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas across the international border by Pakistan Rangers left five civilians dead and 29 injured in Arnia sub-sector of R.S. Pura in Jammu district.
