Muscat, Oct 13: It was an enchanting and enthralling Konkani Singing Competition held in Muscat.  Children participated in this Annual Singing Competition presented scintillating Konkani Songs and entertaining the whole audience with their magical skills of singing. No doubt, each and every one in the audience thoroughly enjoyed the full event.

After the thundering success of the first ever Konkani Dance Competition in Muscat, the Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish, MCCP (Sts. Peter & Paul Church – Ruwi) presented one more thrilling event. This time it was Annual Konkani Singing Competition 2006 – 2007 for the Konkani Speaking Children in Muscat. 

The official sponsors for this annual event were Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Beryl Rodrigues and Fly, Mr. & Mrs. Sunil Sunila D’Souza & Fly and Jotun Paints.

The competition started with warm and hearty welcome by Shalet Noronha, a new anchor of MCCP. She had controlled the full competition with a meticulous preparation and perfect control.  Our own Mangalorean Priest Father Albert D’Silva offered the prayers seeking Heavenly Father’s choicest blessings on the event and the participants in particular and then, declared the competition open by cutting the ribbon.

Vinita Crasta, active member of the MCCP introduced the honorable judges to the audience. Well known Konkani activist, singer, poet and Daiji Dubai’s founder member, M. P. Rodrigues and charismatic and award winning Konkani Singer, devoted singer of Wilfy Nite troupe Rathan Castelino had flown from Dubai specially for this competition and were the honorable judges. Konkani world well known composer, Ye Ye Jeju Mogalla fame, Muscat’s Konkani community’s favorite Apolinaris D’ Souza was the third honorable judge.

Famous Konkani writer, director, novelist, actor, activist and Daiji Foundation’s president, Stephen Mascarenhas (Hemacharya) was the guest of honor.  He was felicitated during the function. In his speech, he earnestly requested the audience and Konkani speaking people to give a special attention to teach Konkani to their children and hence, help to preserve our mother tongue.

The sponsors of the event were also felicitated with floral bouquets.

Konkani writer and MCCP’s general secretary Nirmala Goveas presented the rules of the competition.

Before announcing the results, M. P. Rodrigues shared his views on Konkani music and gave some tips to young and budding singers to move forward to attain maturity in singing.

Ida Pinto, Savitha Rebello, Sandra Correa, Jerald Mascarenhas presented the guest of honor and all the judges mementos as a token of appreciation.

MCCP’s sports and finance committee main coordinator Suraj Rebello announced the names of the winners. Flavia D’ Souza, MCCP Cultural Secretary offered vote of thanks.

Dilip Correa, Ajay Barboza, Freda Suvares, Stany Suvares, Ronald Aranha, Hilda Rasquinha, Vinitha Crasta, Victor Nazareth, Denis Mascarenhas offered their wholehearted support to conduct the competitions. 

It was certainly one of successful event organized by MCCP - Muscat
