Mangalore, Oct 23: It is celebration time all over.  While the Hindu brethren are celebrating the feast of lights, Diwali, Muslim community in this part of the globe is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday October 23.

Muslim brethren started the day with traditional prayers offered in the mosques.  Devotees gathered in the mosques in large numbers.  People were seen hugging each other and wishing "Eid Mubarak' after the prayers.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after a month-long fast.  Ramadan, the month preceding Eid-ul-Fitr, is a phase of sacrifice and sharing.  This fast is in commemoration of the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the Final Book of God. It is believed that the Holy Prophet Mohammed - peace be upon him - was inspired by the first few verses of Holy Qur’an during the last week of Ramadan some 1,400 years ago.
