Moodbidri, Nov 14: Cultural extravaganza 11th Alva’s Nudisiri-2014 wast inaugurated with gaiety and fervour in the premises of Alva's College in Moodbidri on Friday November 14.
After inaugurating the Alva’s Nudisri-2014 addressing the litterateur Na D’ Souza said “‘Present’ itself is a subject of turbulence. ‘Present’ which does not have the past cultural background and progressive thoughts for the future will be always dangerous. We cannot achieve anything without having knowledge of past and thoughts for future. Our present is in confusion because of various issues. At present we are living in danger. We are bending towards selfishness, power, luxury, comfort and money. Wants of human being are endless. The material man is haunted by several things in the present scenario,”
“Politicians are misusing people’s weakness by sowing enmity for their political gains." D'Souza added.
D'Souza also said “Alva's have organized this cultural event in the very meaningful way. I am happy to inaugurate this cultural extravaganza. I have been seeing Alva’s activities and his approach from past many years. There were criticisms to this extravaganza. After contemplating on this programme, I believe no one should pour cold water to the great work for the betterment of Kannada literature. Many universities, Sahithya Parishad and Kannada organizations are functioning as ‘Pitas’. Alva's Nudisri is also one of ‘Pita’ which works for the Kannada literature development. Alva's Nudisiri is a great example to show how a convention can be organized.”
Nadooja Dr Siddalingaiah who presided on this occasion said “I was very happy to be invited as the president of Alva’s Nudisiri. I had inaugurated Alva’s Nudisiri in 2006.Kannada is a tolerant language with a history of thousands of years. It is very sad to see the present state of Kannada language. We see even infants who are supposed to learn their mother tongue first trying to utter in English.
"It is our mistake that we ignored Kannada and embraced English. The schools say the parents should know English. Is it not wrong? We fight in Kannada. But our lawyers argue in English and the judge delivers his verdict in English. Is it right? The law says that ignorance of law is an offence. Then not knowing English is also an offence because no knowledge of law is available in Kannada" he added.
He also said that "The religions and languages should unite people, not break them. We are ultimately Indians. I am happy to see the co existence of other languages like Konkani Beary and Tulu in this region.I condemn the superstitions still followed in the society. I am not against any religion. I request the government to introduce anti superstitious measures at the soonest.Like education even health has become inaccessible to a common man. The farmer was called as a backbone of economy. But farmer’s backbone itself is broken now with people from the current generation migrating to towns from villages. There is nobody to support agriculture."
"It is sad to see the atrocities on women taking place on an everyday basis. It seems that nobody is there to help them.Youth are moving away from morality. Majority of then do not have any value for morality and ethics. They do not respect elders. That’s why we see so many old age homes". He added.
"It is sad to see bonded labour still existing in Karnataka. Bonded labour is an extended version of slavery. For generations the bonded labour disturbed the Dalits. And still it does to them and the tribal as well. International labour organization says that there are 12 million bonded labour in south Asia. As per one estimate Karnataka has more than 3 lac to 4 lac bonded labour . Indian Bonded Labour System Abolition Act of 1976 prohibits bonded labour in India. I have seen one person remaining bonded labour even after becoming the president of Grama Panchayat. Bonded labour is a misery to people.
"Grabbing of land for development and industrialization should stop. Atrocity against Dalits and downtrodden should stop. I request the Dalits to be know and other communities should also help. Please do not make the lives of tribal people miserable. Let them have a respectable life. They have been living in forests for centuries. Let them enjoy the forest produce on which they are dependant. I appreciate Dr Alva for giving free education to the students from economically backward communities. I have heard that he has had adopted more than 450 students to provide better education. He congratulated K Sneha from Koraga community who secured a seat for MBBS being the first from the community to do so" he said.
