Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Nov 18: More than 150 heads of various maths from of Karnataka, along with writers, intellectuals and social activists, staged a demonstration at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, supporting the Anti-Superstition Bill and demanding an end to social discrimination.

The protest led by Pragathipara Matadeeshara Vedike will go on till Wednesday.

Shivanubhava Mahaswami of Beli Math, Bengaluru, said: “In the form of Made Snana, people of the lower castes are being harassed. Supporting superstition in the name of religion is wrong. Such practices should be banned.”

Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swami, the head of Nidumamidi Math, Kolar, said: “Even after the courts showing displeasure over Made Snana, people are promoting this practice. It is wrong to believe that people will become clean from all sins by practising it. The government should have introduced the law against superstition last year itself.”

The other demands of the seers include banning discriminatory practices such as Made Snana, Pankti Bheda and customs observed in some communities against women.

Activists of the Karnataka Jnana Vijnana Samiti, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Samatavada) and Pourakarmika unions gathered at Freedom Park to express their support.

Eminent persons who lent their support included K Marulasiddappa, K Allama Prabhu Bettadur, C S Dwarakanath and N. Prabha.

Volunteers of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi joined the protest after taking out a procession.

First we need to define Superstition. There is a thin line/ grey area between many religious practices and superstition. This will be used as tool to harass people with religious beliefs. Not to say a communal colour will also be painted. Only solution is to ban religion.

I do agree with you. It is terribly sad that the politicians have systematically used religion for political gains. Politics and religion must be totally separated.
If the Politicians or religions are trying to hurt, degrade and discriminate the humanity, we need to speak loud.

    N.M.,
Ok. I admit your argument. I am not telling that you always defended one particular community in this DW forum. But, I never seen your harsh comments when that community commit the crime. Never seen your comments when PFI/SDPI carried our protest and targeting majority community. Never seen your comments against illegal cow slaughtering. Why, you are silent at that time? Oh, now I realized, you people are so called seculars of our society.

@ sudhakar - let me clear the air. I do not endorse or support any extremists...be it, Hinduism, Islam or Christianity.

I have condemned radicals like PFi, sanghis, Born again in this forum since 8 years.

Also, i firmly believe that Rahul Gaddha should retire and settle down with his chick in Bahamas at the same time people like Adityanath and Babas should confine themselves to preaching and lead a pious life.

Have you seen any padris or mullahs contest for MP/MLA elections?

Before pin-pointing fingers at people from other faith and highlighting their wrong doing let us clean our own backyard ...because if we are righteous and perfect then no soul can point their fingers at us.

And regarding cow slaughter - let us start with a few of our own 'rotten apples'.....pls visit any bar after 8 P.M and see who order beef sukka and quarter Batli.

I subscribe to such progressive and broad minded version of Hinduism, i also progressive and development conscious fellow Hindus to support this cause.

We need to be practical and religous without interference of any political party in our faith.

The other version of extremist and radical Hindutva backed by RSS will only take us all backward and we will end up like Pakis...where in politics was hijacked by fanatics and it became a mess.

@ vellano - i can practice my faith and be a good follower of Hinduism even by staying away from these mutts.

The point i am trying to convey is that these swamis aren't being parochial, Instead trying to make us progressive and help us to think outside the box . A good Hindu is not the one who is blind in his beliefs and prays without understanding the dharma. The good Hindu needs to understand whats written in the Gita and adhere to its teachings.

@ vellano - Please be honest, do you think those self proclaimed protectors of Hinduism like Aseemamand, Ramdev, Rampal, Togadia, Nityanand, Muthalik, Sharan Pumpwell, Sehnava are saints and devout hindus??

Isn't it evident that they are more concerned about building a vote bank or monetary gains?

    1. Mixing religion with politics and vice versa.
    2. Politicians interfering in religious issues.
    3. Swamijis/religious heads involving in politics.
    4. Last and most important moral policing.

Good one Stan! this is just a gimmick! recently concluded "Vishwa hindu parishat, RSS joing samajotsava" didnt invite these swamijis.. it has pejawara and rest. so these people r naturally pissed and have done their own samavesha! :-D

Superstition is just not "made snana".. there is a govt directive and also court order against it. Kukkke subramanya kinds of temples are also managed by govt authroties via muzrai dept only.. if they still those things happen, then govt is defying court order. and they need to educate their followers!

superstition for me is "Girl child is a curse, Dowry system, Praani bali, those Nagna pooje, maata mantra, Bhoota -preta badhe, colera-asthma-chicken pox etc are due to village deity being angry, Casteism".... these are real point to worry! and people are not educated or guided properly!
