Udupi: Harassment to college student, two in judicial custody

Udupi, Jan 14: Two youngsters, who had sexually harassed a college student by trying to forcibly hand over a cell phone to her on Monday January 12 were remanded to judicial custody. The incident had occurred near Nayana bus stand in Katapadi Yanagudde in the district.

The youth, identified as Muhammed Rizwan (21) from Katapadi Yenagudde, and Rahul (18) from Katapadi Achchada, were arrested by Kaup police relating to the incident. On being produced in the court, they were remanded to judicial custody till January 27.

It is said that Rizwan and Rahul had handed over their cell phone numbers to a girl student of a college in Moodubelle and had pressurized her in return, to part with her cell phone number, two days ago. She had reported this incident to her parents.

When the girl student was waiting for her bus at Nayana bus stand at Yenagudde on Monday morning, these two youngsters arrived in a motor bike there, and tried to hand over a cell phone to her and pulled at her hand, it is said. Her parents, who were keeping watch over the movements nearby, rushed to the spot and confronted the two. When the youth tried to flee, some locals chased them.

After the parents of the girl filed a complaint at Kaup station, policemen rushed to the spot and took the two into custody and produced them in court.
