Bengaluru, Feb 3: In an incident which was reported from Jeevanahalli, Pulikeshinagar here, a woman and her daughter died in a suspected case of poison consumption. The deceased have been identified as Padmavati (50), and her daughter, Deepa (22),residents of K R Garden in Jeevanahalli. Satish, son of Padmavati, who was shocked at the sudden death of his close ones, also is being treated in a hospital, where his condition is stated to be serious.

After the death of her husband, Dayalan, a few years back, Padmavati had begun to live with her two children at K R Garden in the city. While Deepa was pursuing BA degree course in a college here, Satish works in a private company, it is said.

The two ladies had bought noodles from a food cart from the road and consumed the same on Sunday night. Although they offered noodles to Satish too after he came home from work, he refused to eat, having consumed dinner at the home of a friend.

Both the woman started to suffer from bouts of nausea and dysentery since around 11 pm on Sunday. Satish offered to take them to hospital but Padmavati said she would recover by Monday morning. She consumed a glass of water mixed with a pinch of salt and sugar before sleeping again. At about 5 pm, Padmavati started to suffer again, after which Satish admitted her into a private hospital.

Padmavati died in the hospital sometime later. A few minutes thereafter, Satish got a call from a relative named Kartik that Deepa had died in her sleep at home. At this shocking information, Satish collapsed to the ground unconscious. He is being treated at the private hospital.

The postmortem of bodies was conducted. Sample of noodles that remained uneaten was also sent to forensic science laboratory for testing. The police hope to come to a definite conclusion based on these two reports. There is no information about the person from whom the noodles were bought. The police have been questioning operators of different food carts and restaurants in the area. However, surprisingly, no such cases of death due to consumption of poisoned noodles were reported from anywhere else including K R Garden in the city on Sunday and Monday.
