Census data to be shared with govt depts

Bengaluru, Apr 10 (DHNS): The Backward Classes Welfare department will share the caste census data with other government departments, who can use this information to create an authentic and updated database.

Shalini Rajneesh, principal secretary of the department, said that the census is not just meant to ascertain the caste of a person. Information on the economic status of a family will also be collected and made available to concerned departments.

For instance, urban local bodies can update their database with this information. Similarly, the Revenue department can make use of information pertaining to land holdings for its Bhoomi project and the Food and Civil Supplies department can use the information to identify bogus ration card holders, she pointed out.

The census is scheduled to be conducted between April 11 and 30. Bharat Electronic Limited has been given the responsibility of compiling the data and preparing a report.

Social welfare minister H Anjaneya said that the district incharge ministers have been directed to inaugurate the census in their respective districts on April 11.
