Bengaluru, Apr 16: Though the opposition JD(S) has decided to register its protest against the Siddaramaiah regime’s decision to convene a special session of the State Legislaturue from Monday to discuss the bill for trifurcation of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the principal opposition party BJP is unlikely to do so,

State BJP leaders are understood to be opposed to boycotting the session as is proposed to be done by JD(S) as such a step of boycotting the session would help the ruling party to get the approval for the bill without any opposition.

BJP leaders feel that JD(S) has taken hurried decision to boycott the session rather participating it.

“If we as the principal opposition party also boycott the session, the opportunity to expose the State Government on the floor of the House would be lost,’’ a senior BJP leader said.

BJP has decided to participate in the discussion and vote against the bill after actively participating in the debate.

JD(S) State President and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced that JD(S) will boycott the session and requested the BJP to support the party stand as the bill was uncalled for.

However, BJP leaders have said that party will take a decision after discussing the same in the core committee meeting on Friday.

Former deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, former minister Suresh Kumar and BJP city unit leaders criticized the act of the State Government for calling the special session.

“When State is facing acute shortage of drinking water, the government has not bothered to provide drinking water but has called special session to discuss trifurcation bill of BBMP. This attempt of the state government is nothing but to postpone the BBMP polls,’’ Ashok criticized.

“We will not allow to the State Government to divide the Bengaluru. The State Government has taken anti-people stand. After the High Court and the Governor turned down the Government’s request, it has adopted the alternative route by calling the special session to postpone the BBMP polls,’’ Ashok said.

The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a decision of trifurcate the BBMP is against the image of brand Bengaluru. Bengaluru has brand image at international level. But the Chief Minister has decided to destroy brand Bengaluru image, Suresh Kumar said.

On whether BJP is boycotting the session or not, Ashok said the State BJP President Prahlad Joshi has called the core committee meeting in this regard. Senior party leaders will take a decision in the core committee whether to participate in the session or not?, Ashok replied.

BJP will also hold a day-long dharna in front of Gandhi statue on Friday, opposing the State Government’s decision to bring bill on trifurcation of BBMP.

However, KPCC chief Dr G Parameshwara, who spoke to reporters at the party office, said ``we are geared to face the BBMP elections anytime.’’

The party was not scared of elections, he said pointing out that irregularities have been reported in advertisements, garbage disposal and awarding contract works.
