2 days left for census, but 12.97 lakh homes yet to be covered

Bengaluru, Apr 30 (DHNS): Going into the last two days of socio-economic and educational survey, the enumerators, more so in Bengaluru, are left with a daunting task of carrying out survey in a staggering 12.97 lakh households.

The State government has convened a meeting of various stakeholders on Thursday to decide on the next mode of action. Thursday is the last day of the census that commenced on April 11. The survey is being conducted under the aegis of the Karnataka Backward Classes Department.

As on April 28, 87.22 per cent of the 1.39 crore households have been covered across the State. District- wise, Bengaluru is at the rock bottom with enumerators managing to cover only 57.3 per cent of the 25.7 lakh households.

Mysuru too has lagged behind with 71.5 per cent of the 6.9 lakh households being surveyed. On the other hand, Chikkamagaluru has done well with 97.32 of the total households surveyed, followed by Chikkaballapura (96.92 pc) and Ramanagara (96.76 pc).

“We are in the process of getting district-wise reports. While the survey is more or less complete in rural areas, it is lagging behind in Bengaluru due to various reasons. We will take a decision on Thursday after reviewing the reports,” State Commission for Backward Classes Chairman H Kantharaj said. He said more enumerators have been deputed in areas which have remained uncovered in the survey. At the same time, supervisors have been instructed that there should be no compromise with regard to the quality of the information being collected.
