Bhatkal: Youth arrested in chain snatching incident

Bhatkal, Apr 30: Bhatkal station police who have taken up investigation with regard to the chain snatching incident on the day of Akshaya Thrithiya here have arrested a youth. The wedding chain was snatched from the neck of a woman after blocking her way when she was walking.



The arrested accused is identified as Hanuman Nagar Bunder road sixth cross resident Chandru (26), son of Nagappa Naika. A gold Karimani chain and a motor cycle used in the robbery are recovered from the accused.

It is said that the accused is notorious for thefts. Two criminal cases each are pending against him in Shimoga Vinobhanagar, Kote Police station and Bhadravathi New town police stations. His accomplice, said to be a resident of Bhadravathi who had helped him in the robbery is absconding. Police have thrown a net for his arrest.

CPI Prashanth Nayak, PSI Prakash Banta, Police constables Nagaraja Naika, Vinayaka Pateela, Niranjan Naika, Harish Devaratti, Ramesh Koodala, Manjappa T, Nagaraja Chenchali, Rajesh Prabhu and Vivek Patagara participated in the police operation to arrest the accused under guidance from Police commissioner R Dileep and Dy SP Ayyappa. The successful arrest of the accused within a few days of the incidentis appreciated by people in the taluk.

Robbery for love: Chandru who is a notorious thief was in love with a rural girl from Bhatkal and promised her that he will present her a gold chain on the day of Akshaya Thritiya. As per reliable sources, he had committed the robbery in order to keep his promise. He had sent messages to his lover over the mobile before and after the robbery. The police took the accused to the place of the incident and conducted investigation. A case is registered in Bhatkal police station and investigation is in progress.
