Mangalore, Apr 3: The Golden Jubilee Celebration of Jhelo Konkani monthly was held at Sandesha on Saturday March 31. The Jhelo Golden Jubilee special issue was released by Jerry Kulshekar, senior Konkani litterateur.
Speaking on the occasion Jerry Kulshekar said that Jhelo started in 1956 by the late Jo Sa Alvares has been instrumental in introducing, nurturing many hidden talents. “Many of the great Konkani writers would surely agree that they were introduced to Konkani field by Jhelo.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario was felicitated on the occasion for his contribution to the field of Konkani culture and language. It is owing to his untiring and selfless efforts that Konkani has reached the threshold of schools and would shortly be introduced as optional language.
Another person who was felicitated on the occasion was Stephen Quadros Permude. He has recently compiled first-ever English-Konkani dictionary in Kannada script.
Panchu Bantwal the editor of the Jhelo magazine, Lloyd Austin Rego the editor of Mithr, Dr Edward Nazareth and many well-known writers were also present at this occasion.
