Delhi witnesses three major fires


New Delhi, May 21 (IANS): Three major fires were reported from the national capital on Thursday, officials said. However, no casualties were reported.

"The number of fire incidents increases in the summer. We receive calls of more than two dozen minor and big fire incidents everyday. There were three big fire incidents in Delhi today (Thursday)," said a Delhi Fire Services official.

According to him, the first case was reported from a market at Keshopur area in west Delhi at 10.40 a.m.

"Fifteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. It was finally brought under control at 11.20 a.m.," Delhi Fire Services chief A.K. Sharma told IANS.

Sharma said the fire broke out in a vehicle carrying vegetables.

The second major incident was reported from a footwear showroom in Nangloi area of west Delhi.

"Twenty-two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire which was caused due to an electrical short-circuiting in an air-cooler," another official said. The fire was brought under control at 1.50 p.m.

The third incident was reported from Samalkha, also in west Delhi.

The official said the fire was first noticed at 1.25 p.m. and 20 fire tenders were rushed to it bring the blaze under control.
